It all started with a card. In early 2024, I received a handwritten note from Ralph, a resident at Atria Sugar Land in Texas. His words were warm and welcoming, and his invitation felt like more than just a kind gesture – it was a promise that Atria Sugar Land was a special place.

How could I resist? In late November, I visited Ralph, his fellow residents and our extraordinary team, making Atria Sugar Land my 100th community visit of 2024.

True to his word, Ralph helped make sure my reception was a shining example of uncommon hospitality. Every detail felt thoughtfully considered, but what struck me most was the sense of belonging that filled the room.

This feeling reflected what I’ve witnessed across the United States and Canada during my travels: a warmth and togetherness created by the incredible people who call our communities home, along with those who dedicate themselves to making these homes thrive.

Every community I’ve visited – whether in a bustling city or a quiet neighborhood – has been a reminder of why we do what we do. Our mission is about more than providing a place to live; it’s about creating environments where people belong, connect and thrive.

These visits have also reaffirmed my belief in the power of our C.A.R.E. philosophy:

  • Customer Experience is at the heart of everything we do. Seeing smiles on residents’ faces and hearing their stories of moments that matter has reminded me we are on the right path.
  • Accountability ensures we deliver on our promises – to residents, their families and one another.
  • Results driven by data ensure the long-term strength of our communities and our ability to serve more people.
  • Employee Experience is foundational, as none of this would be possible without the dedication, compassion and creativity of our teams.

For me, Ralph’s card wasn’t just an invitation – it was also a reminder of the spirit that defines our communities and fuels my excitement for what lies ahead.

To everyone I’ve met during my travels – thank you. Your stories, enthusiasm and feedback have inspired me, and I am deeply grateful for the warm welcomes I received at each community. You made 2024 unforgettable and you affirmed my confidence in our shared future.

There are still many more communities I look forward to visiting, each with its own incredible people and stories. But one thing is clear: our greatest strength is the people who bring these communities to life. Together, we are creating something truly special, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

With excitement and gratitude,
